Asset tagging

Tag every asset, however minor, with NFC tags or QR labels. Scan with any phone to open the asset's record, record an activity and keep a full history.

Good asset tagging gives every asset an identity that survives the field. EXTAG links each tag to a record, so a scan opens the asset, its forms and its history.

Choose the tag to suit the asset

  • NFC silicone labels, small and large. UV-protected silicone with 3M high-tack adhesive, for indoor and outdoor use on metal surfaces, from −20 to 120 °C.
  • QR code labels. Weatherproof, and read by the phone camera.
  • NFC Scaffold Tags. An inspection record and handover certificate in one PVC tag, with light, medium or heavy duty rating.
  • GPS tags. Live location tracking for high-value equipment.

From tag to record

  1. Tag it. Attach the tag to the asset or location.
  2. Link it. The tag is linked to the asset’s record in your register. Your existing spreadsheet or ERP reference can be kept on the record, and EXTAG helps with the initial data import.
  3. Scan it. Anyone with the app scans the tag, picks the activity and completes the smart form.
  4. See it. Status and history update straight away on the map and in reports, and the scan can update the asset’s location from the device’s GPS. Static assets can also have their location set by dropping a pin on a map.

Each action or form records whether the tag was scanned as part of the process, showing the person was physically at the asset. That proof of presence is why NFC suits compliance work: NFC tags are secure and can’t be easily copied, while a QR code can be photographed and scanned away from the asset.

Tag the assets your ERP leaves out

ERP and maintenance systems handle core and critical assets. Many other assets are managed on paper or in spreadsheets. EXTAG gives them ERP-level control, and works alongside your ERP. Learn more on EXTAG and your ERP or CMMS.

Works offline, on any phone

Scanning and forms keep working without a signal and sync when back in coverage. Contractors scan the same tags and complete the same forms, and are added without increasing your licence cost.

How it works on site

  1. Tag it. Attach an NFC tag or QR label to the asset or location.
  2. Scan it. Scan with any phone, pick the activity and complete the smart form.
  3. See it. Status and history show on the map and in reports straight away, with the location updated from the scanning device's GPS or set by a pin on the map.

Frequently asked questions

What is asset tagging?
Asset tagging is attaching a durable identifier, such as an NFC tag or QR label, to an asset or location so it can be identified and its record opened with a scan. In EXTAG, the tag links to the asset's register entry, forms and full history.
Which tags does EXTAG use for asset tagging?
NFC silicone labels in small (35 × 15 mm) and large (50 × 50 mm) formats, weatherproof QR code labels, NFC Scaffold Tags, and GPS tags for live location tracking of high-value equipment. NFC tags and QR labels do not track location live; a scan can update the asset's location from the scanning device's GPS.
Do I need special readers to scan tags?
No. A standard phone or tablet reads NFC tags and QR labels, so you do not need extra hardware.
Can we tag assets that our ERP does not track?
Yes. That is what EXTAG is built for. Many organisations keep their ERP for core and critical assets and use EXTAG for the many other assets and supporting equipment that fall below the ERP exclusion line.
