EXTAG and your ERP or CMMS

Alongside your ERP. Or as your CMMS.

EXTAG doesn’t replace your ERP. It gives the assets your ERP leaves out ERP-level control, and if you want one maintenance system, it can be your CMMS too.

The short answer

ERP and maintenance systems handle core and critical assets. Many other assets and supporting equipment are excluded, often managed manually with paper or spreadsheets. EXTAG manages those excluded assets, and integration with your ERP or CMMS is possible: EXTAG connects to your systems through their available APIs, and our team configures it.

Diagram of the asset management gap: core and critical assets above the ERP exclusion line are managed by ERP; all other lower-value, high-quantity assets fall below it into spreadsheets and paper, where EXTAG provides a cost-effective, flexible solution.

Typical assets in the gap

Lifting and rigging, scaffolding and access, fire equipment, mobile equipment, rotables and preserved spares. These are the equipment registers that still sit in spreadsheets.

Or use EXTAG as your CMMS

Large organisations usually keep their ERP and add EXTAG for the assets it does not cover. But EXTAG is not limited to the gap. It is a complete asset platform, so organisations that want a single maintenance system can use it as their CMMS: planned and reactive maintenance, work orders, assignment, scheduling, backlog and overdue tracking, contractor evidence, cost capture and reporting.

Because forms, tasks and workflows are configured rather than coded, it is built around how you already work, not around a generic maintenance model. You can start small and extend it to more asset classes as you go. EXTAG does not do your ERP's finance, procurement or stores functions, and it never replaces your ERP.

Common questions from ERP owners

Do we need EXTAG if we already have an ERP?

ERPs are built for core and critical assets, and they are expensive and slow to change. EXTAG gives the rest of your equipment ERP-level control, and connects back to the ERP.

Will EXTAG duplicate data that is already in our ERP?

No. The intent is to manage what the ERP excludes. Each EXTAG asset record can hold the identifiers used in other systems, such as the ERP asset number, so records stay matched. Where an asset or work order does live in the ERP, an integration can be set up so data is entered once.

Do we need an ERP project to start?

No. Existing ERP and spreadsheet records can be imported as they are, so EXTAG can be set up fast and integrated later, once you know what data needs to go where.

Can EXTAG integrate with our ERP or CMMS?

Yes, ERP and CMMS integrations are possible. EXTAG connects to the systems you already use, pushing and pulling data through their available APIs, and our team configures the integrations. Data can flow in both directions, for example asset master sync, work orders and status updates. We work with you to determine what data needs to go where.

Why is change so much faster in EXTAG?

EXTAG is configured, not coded. A change that takes weeks to months in conventional software (specification, schema change, code, data migration, testing and retraining) is typically made in EXTAG within hours to days, with no migration.

The same change made two ways: conventional software needs a specification, schema change, code, data migration, regression testing and retraining over weeks to months; in EXTAG the change is discussed, the template is reconfigured and records follow with no migration, typically within hours to days.
