Australia's defence industry plays a crucial role in supporting the Australian Defence Force's (ADF) global operations and focuses on the sustainment of assets. The ADF utilises cutting-edge technologies, boasting a track record of safety and reliability.

Australian innovation and ingenuity has made significant contributions to the defence capabilities of the US, UK, and European militaries. In response to the 2023 Defence Strategic Review, the Australian Government has increased defence spending to approximately $52.5 billion for 2023-24.

A significant portion, $19 billion, will be invested over the next four years, prioritising capabilities and their sustainment.

Key priorities include conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines through the AUKUS partnership, enhanced strike capabilities, improved operational capabilities in northern bases, and the integration of disruptive technologies in collaboration with Australian industry.

Additionally, Australia commits over $3.4 billion in the next decade for domestic companies to advance technologies, with a focus on sustainment, under the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator (ASCA). The program covers areas like hypersonics, directed energy, trusted autonomy, quantum technology, information warfare, and long-range fires.
